The two goddesses, the Lovers, argue about who
Invented Love. She from heaven, says
If you, Earth, my lover emulated the supreme
In me, as i’m Love, queen of virtues – you,
Acting with me, would only ever act with love.
But, Earth replies, why frame my matter as dark,
And heaven, light, when heart lies within me?
Still, Love says, you constantly change, while i
Uphold the world. What if i have virtue in my
Giving? Asks earth, and virtue joins my nature?
Aye, but then you take, dear. Take what, my love?
My eye doesnt see whats not there. Because my love
For you comes from above. But, says Earth
You quicken my pulse, my heart generates
Love. And, between each other the Lovers speak,
Back and forth, forever, about their love.
